Consumer Discipline Lead

  • An exciting opportunity to develop a new position and to support the growth of the consumer lived experience workforce at MWAMHS

Mid West Area Mental Health Service (MWAMHS) is expanding the lived experience workforce and leadership roles to contribute to more effective services and better outcomes for people accessing our service. The MWAMHS Consumer Discipline Lead role is guided by the principles of consumer lived experience workforce values. The Consumer Discipline Lead will play a pivotal role in supporting the implementation of the Royal Commission's recommendations at MWAMHS. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to change within the mental health system and to support the growth of lived experience workforce and representation at MWAMHS.


The position is an area wide role and will work closely with other MWAMHS Consumer/Carer Consultants, peer workers and coordinators across all teams to provide leadership, support area wide peer work initiatives, co-design work, contribute lived experience perspectives in the design and delivery of the mental health service, discipline specific supervision, promote and/or provide training for the consumer workforce at MWAMHS.

 

Your new role:

  • Embrace a new opportunity to provide leadership and support to the Consumer Lived Experience workforce at MWAMHS
  • Contribute to the MWAMHS Executive team
  • Play a key role in lived experience leadership and the implementation of the Royal Commission recommendations
  • Implement strategic goals to develop, grow and provide appropriate support structures to the consumer lived experience workforce
  • Be involved in co-design of local projects and new service initiatives
  • Be a driver for change and quality improvement

About you:

  • Have a personal lived experience as a consumer of a mental health service
  • Experience as a consumer worker in public mental health is desirable
  • Training, qualifications or professional development relevant to the consumer workforce (ie. Intentional Peer Support, Cert 4 in Mental Health Peer Work, Peer Zone etc)
  • Commitment to working with lead peer support worker, consumers, service providers and family/carers to participate in direct service provision and contribute to the improvement of mental health services for consumers and their family/carers
  • Demonstrated ability to provide discipline specific supervision
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult, liaise and work collaboratively with consumers, carers, and service staff
