The Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL) is a leading Australian infectious diseases public health laboratory that provides the Victorian Government with public health laboratory services in virology, bacteriology, mycobacteriology, parasitology and mycology, including surveillance, outbreak investigations, reference testing, test development and applied research.

VIDRL also performs diagnostic testing, for hospitals, private pathology laboratories and sexual health clinics. VIDRL also has national reference laboratory designations to the Commonwealth Department of Health for polio and enteroviruses, measles, rubella, viral haemorrhagic fevers and smallpox. VIDRL has a strong commitment to international health programs through World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre designations for Reference and Research on Influenza, Mycobacterium ulcerans, and viral hepatitis as well as WHO Regional Reference Laboratory designations for poliovirus, measles, rubella and hepatitis B.

The National High Security Quarantine Laboratory, the only high-security laboratory for human testing of its kind in Australia, is also located at VIDRL. With high-containment facilities, VIDRL is uniquely positioned to respond to emerging pathogens.
 
Your new role:

This 12-month appointment will provide project support and outbreak response coordination for VIDRL. In this role you will:

  • Plan, implement and coordinate key public health project work undertaken by VIDRL in partnership with external funding bodies
  • Coordinate and provide administrative support for VIDRL’s participation in outbreak responses
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and self-direction in managing program activities
  • Work collaboratively with a team of multi-disciplinary partners and other project managers
  • Be highly organised, communicate effectively and set priorities to assist in completion and reporting of activities.

About you:

  • A qualification in management, public health or related field
  • Relevant experience in the management of projects in public health or related field
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to relate effectively with a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent written communication skills, including preparation of minutes, project plans and reports
  • High level of proficiency in the use of standard application software such as Microsoft office
