The Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

 

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our Clinical Governance team. Full Time or Part Time Fixed Term will be considered, based at Royal Melbourne Hospital City Campus.

 

About the Role

 

This role will provide assistance to the Executive Director Clinical Governance, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the Director Medical Services (DMS) to ensure effective clinical governance standards and the highest quality of care are maintained throughout the organisation.

Key Duties and responsibilities: 

 

  • Participate in on-going assessment of competencies as per RACMA requirements
  • Provide support to the Medical Workforce Unit with recruitment, retention, term allocation, rostering, mandatory training, accreditation, coordination, improving the Doctor in training (DiT) experience and achieving budgeted goals. This may require appropriate application of HR principles in conjunction with MH Human Resources
  • Participate in and contribute to the development of medical education programs for junior and senior medical staff as directed by the CMO/DMS
  • Participate in and co-ordinate other issues/ projects related to the portfolio of the CMO as directed by the CMO/DMS such as supporting the appropriate credentialing of senior medical staff.
  • General medical management duties as directed by the CMO/DMS including actions arising from Committees, administrative support for Committees, financial management of relevant budgets, clinical governance projects and risk management activities
  • Ensure own health and well-being and seek assistance if impairment in physical or mental health is impacting on job performance
  • Participate and contribute to improvement of policies, procedures and protocols and identify areas of improvement in clinical practice
  • Undertake ongoing self-directed learning by participation in continuing education activities and attendance at educational meetings, including any mandatory training programs
  • Assist in collection of data for audit purposes, and participate in research activities undertaken within the unit where required

  

About You:

 

Essential

  • A medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) which is recognised for full registration with the Medical Practitioners Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • Working towards or completed a relevant postgraduate management qualification
  • Membership or candidacy of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA), with at least one year of RACMA accredited medical management training
  • Experience in a large metropolitan or regional health service

 

Desirable

  • Sound knowledge of current heath legislation
  • Familiar with Medical Enterprise Agreement terms and conditions in Victoria
  • Research and Ethics Processes
    - Demonstrate a commitment to ethical practice and able to apply tenets of ethical practice to medical management scenarios in the acute health care sector
  • Sound understanding of processes associated with clinical risk management in the acute health care sector
  • Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate relevant information and apply to management issues
  • Demonstrated commitment to own learning and development
  • Management and Leadership
    - Understanding of organisation wide management and leadership practices associated with the delivery of clinical care
    - Sound understanding of the appropriate allocation of finite health resources
    - Understanding of financial issues in the acute health care sector
    - Demonstrated ability to lead and work in collaboration with members of interdisciplinary teams
