The ICU has 42 physical bed spaces and currently admits over 2000 patients every year and is equipped to provide physiological monitoring and life supporting therapies, accepting both high dependency and intensive care patients. The range of life supporting therapies provided, include haemofiltration, IABP, ECMO, invasive neurological monitoring, invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, invasive haemodynamic monitoring, temporary cardiac pacing, administration of inotropic and vasopressor agents, and other high level supportive therapies.
The ICU facility at the Royal Melbourne Hospital provides services to the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer centre partners, the Peter MacCallum Hospital and the Women’s hospital across the Parkville precinct.
The opportunity:
- The Intensive Care Unit provides a supportive and exciting learning environment
- Practice collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary health care team
- Provide high quality standards of patient care, including the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation for care
- Accept accountability for own actions and seek guidance if situations exceed the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse
- Demonstrate knowledge/competency in performance of clinical skills relevant to level of expertise
- Utilise available resources in the most cost effective manner and promotes and participates in quality activities
About you:
- Postgraduate qualification in critical care nursing (ICU)
- Current ICU Experience in an acute hospital
- Current registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Enthusiastic and organised approach to work independently and within multi-disciplinary teams
- Demonstrated provision of high quality patient centred care
- Developed assessment, clinical reasoning, problem solving and prioritisation skills
- High level of reliability and professional conduct within the Melbourne Health values
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development towards the nursing profession.
